As a conversation starter, I asked my guests to tell the most memorable gift given to them and why it meant so much.
Mine occurred when I was in the 6th grade. I wanted a hot roller set called ‘Easy Curl’. My friend Cheryl had one. The advertising slogan was “Easy Curl, easy curl, hair just like a grown up girl.” I just knew if I got it that bad hair days would be a thing of the past!
On Christmas morning, I opened what I thought was the “Easy Curl.” It was not. My mother had bought me a real hot roller set, not a toy one, like the one I wanted. I liked it even better.
Years later the scripture in Matthew 7 brought the memory of my mother’s gift to me back to mind.
I know, and gratefully accept, the greatest gift ever given to us- salvation by faith through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This life is HARD, and the promise of heaven and an eternity with Jesus is the GIFT in store for those who believe, BUT there are also little gifts from God around us every day if we choose to see HIS intervention in our lives.
That Christmas morning my mother gave me a better gift than what I asked for.
TODAY is a gift. I encourage you to look for the good things Matt 7:11 has promised.
