This generation has given ‘hand-me-downs’ and ‘discards’ a cool new phrase.  Upcycling.  The point is to take something tired & worn out & remake it into something beautiful & useful.

 I have LOVED upcycling even before it became THE thing to do.  What I really love is to take something used for a specific purpose & rework it for a whole NEW & different usefulness.

For instance, I have a large wire & wooden birdcage once brown in color.  I painted it white in a Shabby Chic kind of way.  I clipped a few of the cage wires on either side & voila’ …a holder for cards at a wedding.

One can only get the cards out by upending the large birdcage & removing the bottom.  THIS assures that the possibility of thievery is lessened as folks enjoy the occasion & little attention is given to the gift table.

Did you know that God, too, is interested in ‘Upcycling?’  He is so interested in redeeming the ‘unlovely’ that He gave His only Son to die on a cross for our sinfulness.  When we accept Christ as our Savior, His Word tells us we become a new creation! 

Christ continues to “up-cycle” this ole girl as I grow in Him.  I pray my brokenness is remade into something beautiful that brings the glory right back to Him.  And one day, when my life on THIS earth is no more, he will UP-cycle me to heaven with Him forever. :-)

I’m sharing today the recipe for Tina’s Pasta Salad.  It was served the day my birdcage graced the gift table at the wedding of her daughter, Katy.

                                                        Sweet Macaroni Salad                                                     

1 (16 0z) pkg salad macaroni
4 medium carrots, shredded
1 large green pepper,  finely chopped
1 med red onion, finely chopped
2 c Miracle Whip salad dressing
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk (NOT evaporated milk)
1 c sugar
1/s c cider vinegar
1 tsp salt
½ tsp pepper

Cook macaroni according to package directions.   Drain, & set aside.

Whisk the Miracle Whip, sweetened condensed milk, vinegar, sugar, salt, & pepper together.

Pour dressing over the macaroni, carrots, pepper, & onion.  Mix well.  Cover & refrigerate overnight.  Serves 20.
